Custody Solutions has created a MK9 pepper spray holster with an auto rotating retention hood. “This is a secured yet fast to withdraw, MK9 holster”. The holster is for those that carry the MK9 pepper spray during the performance of their duties in prisons, jails, federal penitentiaries, and as security officers. It was created with the “For Us by Us” concept. After listening to what improvements Law Enforcement Officers needed within a holster, we then incorporated their ideas into a functional product. Our holsters use a thumb pull lever which lets a spring-loaded retention strap to auto-rotate out of the way, allowing the MK9 the ability to be easily withdrawn from the holster.
Correctional Staff from various departments have come across situations regarding the deployment of Oleoresin Capsicum otherwise simply known as “OC”. The OC disperses in either a stream, fog, or foam from the MK9 pepper spray. The MK9 is placed in a holder or holster and carried by correctional staff during the performance of their duties. It must also be able to adapt as the roles change throughout a shift.
Realizing that a holster to carry the MK9 safely by correctional staff needed to be created. We enlisted the help of Kaos Concealment Holsters to develop our first MK9 holster model. We then continued our research to make sure that this is an item correctional staff could use, so we created a Customer Discovery Survey with the help of students from the University of Southern California (USC) to find out from law enforcement professionals as to what a holster will need to help them safely perform their duties. The professionals working in prisons and jails requested a holster that can retain the MK9 in the event of a physical altercation, while running to an incident, or chasing a suspect. Officers also wanted a holster with the ability to quickly withdraw their MK9 during a threatening situation.
All this information was collected and we began on a new design with the help from design engineer RekMax3D. Several samples were issued out to test and adjustments were made to the design after listening to the feedback from the officers. Our holster was designed to adapt to you by allowing for multiple placement options. You can wear it on your thigh, hip, or on a tactical vest. Not only did we discover an issue with MK9 holsters, but problems with duty gear in general. Custody Solution was created from a need to find solutions to these problems in the custody environment. That is how we became known as Custody Solutions. Our site is providing functional gear tested and recommended by experts who work in a law enforcement environment to secure their less lethal use of force option. Our mission is to provide these professionals with duty gear that is functional and practical. We are a veteran owned small business who is dedicated to those that work behind the walls and protect our communities.
